How to run TACTIC TEAM

Run TACTIC TEAM in Mac OS X or Windows

Running TACTIC TEAM in Mac OS X or Windows is described in the following 2 sections. Once you are comfortable running TACTIC TEAM and become familar with the TACTIC user interface, you may consider upgrading the database to PostgreSQL for a heavier multi-user environment:

Welcome to TACTIC TEAM in Mac OS X
-------------------------------------------------------

You can use one of the 2 methods to access TACTIC:

1. Double-click on the TACTIC 4.1 icon on your desktop to start the server and client at the same time.

2. To connect to TACTIC TEAM through a regular browser like Firefox or Chrome, you can use the following URL:

On first start-up, you will be asked to set the password for the user "admin", which has the highest access level to TACTIC for administration.

Connection from multiple clients
-------------------------------------------------------

To start it in a way where other people in your internal network can connect to it, you can follow these steps:
1. In a Mac Terminal, type in ifconfig and for instance you find that your IP is 192.168.139.1:

2. In Command Prompt, cd to the bin folder of TACTIC:

/Applications/TACTIC-4.1.app/Contents/Frameworks/bin>"../python/bin/python" startup_standalone.py -
p 9000 -s 192.168.139.1

Now, other users can then connect to your TACTIC TEAM using the URL

The TACTIC Server process only appears if it is started through double clicking the icon on the desktop, but that is currently hardcoded to start locally in 127.0.0.1:9123 for easy self-running setup. This will be improved in the future.

For connections across the internet or a larger scale usage, TACTIC Enterprise is recommended as it involves the installation of a Web Server.

*Note - This may require modifications to firewall rules either on local computers or in your router.  It is also possible to port forward requests to port 80 in your router/firewall to the original port 9123 or whichever port you start TACTIC TEAM on (ie 9000).

If the TACTIC TEAM server is shut down, you can start it by running:

cd /Applications/TACTIC-4.1.app/Contents/Frameworks/bin
"../python/bin/python" startup_standalone.py

To start the client on its own:

cd /Applications/TACTIC-4.1.app/Contents/Frameworks
./TACTIC_Client.sh

/Applications/TACTIC-3.9.app/Contents/Frameworks/bin>"../python/bin/python" startup_standalone.py -
p 9000 -s 192.168.139.1

Now, other users can then connect to your TACTIC TEAM using the URL

http://192.168.139.1:9000/tactic

This worked for me using the TACTIC 4.1.0.v03 MAC Team on OSX 10.9.
What is the error you are getting in your web browser?
If the error is that the browser can't connect to the server,
then please make sure that you first run the following command to determine the IP of your server:

ifconfig

Then, use that IP to form the URL the clients go to.
For example, below is my ifconfig output:

tactics-Mac:bin tactic$ ifconfig

lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384

options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM>

inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128

inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000

inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1

nd6 options=1<PERFORMNUD>

gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280

stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280

en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

options=b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_HWTAGGING>

ether 00:0c:14:14:23:d3

inet6 fe80::20d:29gf:fe13:2dc3%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4

inet 192.168.31.128 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.31.255

nd6 options=1<PERFORMNUD>

media: autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex>)

status: active

tactics-Mac:bin tactic$

Looking at the output, the IP of my particular machine will be 192.168.31.128.
The URL to point the client web browsers will be http://192.168.31.128:9000/tactic
